Diana
We just completed our CAP inspection here in Dallas.
I have one histotech who performs gross duties on fallopian tubes
and non-dissected biopsy type tissues. We put her under the same guidelines as our two path assistants, including the competency testing, which is performed by one of our pathologist. We have
documented results of the testing in file.
We were not cited, but it was suggested that we write a set of guidelines strictly for the histotech, to make sure that we are
"doing it right".
I don't know if that will help you, but I don't have a problem doing this. I think this is one of those gray areas which is based on interpretation until some better guidelines are put in place.

Is anyone aware of any state imposed regulations governing
Histotechnologists grossing surgical specimens, specifically, for New
Jersey?
