Paula,
We treat our bone marrow core bxs in the following manner:
1. formalin
fix...........................3 hours
2. Surgipath Decal
II...............2.5 hours
3. rinse*(tap
water)...............15 min.
*Rinse is not necessary according to Surgipath label, but we do it by
pathologist request.
4. process on routine overnight run.
We are then able to get decent quality sections of cores at 2
microns, although occasionally we have experienced a "blanking" effect in the
nuclei of RBC precursor cells....(suggestions on that, anyone?)
As for aspirates, we receive syringe clots and "unit" clots (which
contain spicules). They are fixed in 10% formalin, filtered into mesh
baggies, cassetted and run on the routine processor.
Hope I had some info that can help!
