Right on, Patsy! It actually is possible to train a pathologist to block a
placenta correctly. I know because I know how myself - though I confess it
took m a while - I'd sugggest your pathologist go somewhere and learn to do
My pathologists are teaching me to gross placentas. I have learned how difficult it is to cut the sections thin. However, I have found they hold together better and you can get thinner sections if the placenta is fixed. Another trick I have learned it to lay the section flat and trim the back with scissors.
