What type of biopsy?
Our renal pathologist wants to see 3 stained levels, so 13 slides
are cut 2 serial sections on each slide. slides 1,4, and 7 are stained
H&E, 2, 5, and 8 with PAS, 3,6, and 9 with MASS, 10 with Jones. the
other 3 sections are used for other requests if necessary, CR, IHC etc.
These cores are usually 18gauge needle core bxs. The levels needed are
related to tissue type. Levels are cut on lungs, GI's, Livers , breast,
etc with extra sections picked up for possible special stains/IHC.
