There are 3 formulae listed in Gray's Formulary and Guide.
Stieve as cited in Romeis 1948
190 ml. water, 11.5 gms. mercuric chloride, 50 ml. 40% formaldehyde, 10 ml.
acetic acid.
Stieve as cited in Roskin 1946
190 ml. water, 2 gms mercuric chloride, 50 ml. 40% formaldehyde, 10 ml. acetic
acid.
Stieve as cited in Romeis 1948
210 ml. water, 2.2 gms picric acid, 15. ml. 40% formaldehyde, 0.75 gms
trichloroacetic acid.
This is obviously a modified Bouin's.
From the components and also the date, I would guess that these are all
fixatives used for general morphology.
