RE: Bone cement

Diane:

You can embed in Technovit 7200 which is the embedding media for the EXAKT
System. To do this you have to be able to light initiate the polymerization
of the resin. It does not dissolve out most bone cements when you run a
normal processing cycle of about one month. It is however very brittle and
you have to do ground sections. You cannot cut sections on a sledge because
the media will chatter.

Subject: Bone cement

Hey Boneheads.....I have some femoral specimens that contain a fair
amount of
bone cement. Does anyone know if I can embed these in plastic (Spurr's
or
PMMA) and still preserve the cement for ground sections? Also, since
the doc
has requested a few decals on some of these specimens, what is the best
way
to dissolve the cement in order to decalcify and embed in paraffin? Am
I
asking the impossible???

Thanks in advance for any assistance!!
