There was a thread on this some time ago, so a trip to
the archives should prove useful. Absent that, here
is our procedure:
Fix in 3% glut (unbuffered) for up to 24 hr (anything
beyond 24 hr and you will have rocks);
Wash in tap water--about 1 hr;
Place in 10% NBF and process through your normal mouse
procedure.
If the eyes have been left in glut for more than 24
hrs, the sections are usually pretty good, but 24 or
less (you could try 12 to 18 hrs to maximize the
results) gives really good sections, little separation
of the retina and RPE and a lens that doesn't shatter.
